Château de Bosmelet : restauration, renouveau et modernité by Alain GERMAIN – Château de Bénouville

Château de Bosmelet : restoration, renewal and modernity

Alain Germain will present his project to restore the château, parks and gardens of the Bosmelet estate in Seine-Maritime. The château, a fine example of Louis XIII architecture, including a park designed by Collinet, Le Nôtre’s head gardener in Versailles, is at the heart of a project seeking both to preserve the past via historic vestiges whilst welcoming the most contemporary of features from the present. The château has been transformed into a cultural centre (housing the Alain Germain performing arts collections); the park and gardens are occupied once more from the double line of three hundred-year-old lime trees to the two walled gardens, currently under renovation, via the vestiges of World War II under the shade of the 16th century chestnut trees, the whole becoming a huge stage where topiaries and contemporary sculptures will soon play the leading roles.
