Within the framework of the series of conferences on ‘Garden art in the civilisations of Europe and East Asia’
Organised around a targeted theme (the architectural system of the villa and its garden, the landscaping trail and composition, art practised in the garden, the relationship between the garden and the home, tradition and innovation in garden art, the migration process between Europe and the Far East, textual description and engraving as a tool for transfer, the encounter between imported models and local traditions, garden representation in paintings), these day conferences aim to confront usage, practices and techniques implemented in the gardens of Europe and East Asia for, alongside a certain form of universality in the garden’s function (entertainment, pleasure, parties and celebration), the art historian and architect investigate, from one continent to the other, the extraordinary diversity of the elements that comprise the garden, the shapes, forms and systems that compose it, and the representations that express its nature.
