Dialogues in the garden, between science and culture: acclimatisation, improvements in agriculture and sustainable management
This season of lectures and debates will be aimed at highlighting the historical, scientific and ethnographic background that lies behind gardening, ornamental horticulture and floral arts in today’s society. The knowledge and skills that gardeners, florists and nurserymen bring to the selection, improvement and maintenance of plants all operate in conjunction with the design of landscapes and garden areas. This conjunction is strongly influenced by cultural considerations (and particularly aesthetic ones), as well as by political and commercial factors, depending on whether the spaces are public or private.
