Jardins et palais d’Orient – Draguignan (France)
14 December 2024 - 6 April 2025
Oriental palaces and gardens
Over 250 works and objects from the Louvres collections and other cultural institutions in France’s Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region will compose this genuinely poetic stroll through the mythical gardens of the antiquity, the palace gardens of medieval Spain and, in particular, the Safavid palace gardens of the Persian Empire, the Ottoman world and Mughal India in the modern period. Contemporary creation will also be offered a place via two of the artist Stéphane Thidet’s leading artistic approaches, touching on the environmental and geopolitical stakes associated with this vast subject (refer to page 36). Both chronological and themed, the Jardins et Palais d’Orient exhibition will cover the mythical dimension of gardens, the indissociable architecture of Oriental palaces since the antiquity, and the use of gardens as a place of poetic deambulation for the visitor.
