Banc, jardin des Tuileries

Seated in a public garden

The Louvre has engaged an ambitious programme to restore and reproduce the historic benches installed in the 19th century in the Tuileries Garden, including a participative patronage campaign. This round table will explore the aesthetic, patrimonial and social role of this iconic urban furniture. By associating approaches adopted by historians, urban planners and landscapers, it aims to highlight the history of these garden benches, the influence of the famous ‘Davioud bench’ and the importance of seating in our towns and public gardens.
