The decorative arts, fashion, design and gardens around 1925

The year 2025 marks the centenary of the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, held in Paris from 28 April to 30 November 1925. The fourth edition of Rencontre des Arts Décoratifs (Decorative Art Encounters) seized the opportunity to organise the Ruhlmann Decorator exhibition, held from 12 March 2024 to 1 June 2025, to reunite young researchers and teachers/lecturers so they may reflect on the chronology and the very definition of the term ‘Art Deco’.
Focusing both on a style and a period in history, it covers an aesthetic approach which, although not born in 1925, benefited – through the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts – from a certain form of accomplishment and extraordinary dissemination. This one-day conference will also enable attendees to improve their knowledge of the exhibition, its stakeholders, varied programme, successes and less fortunate anecdotes.
