Revoir le Château-Neuf. La demeure disparue des rois à Saint-Germain-en-Laye – Saint-Germain-en-Laye (France)
14 November 2025 - 8 March 2026
Revisiting Château-Neuf, the forgotten abode of the kings of Saint-Germain-en-Laye
Further developed and completed by Louis XIII, then partly rebuilt by Louis XIV, the Count of Artois later ordered for its demolition, to allow François-Joseph Bélanger to build a palace worthy of the count’s aspirations. Seized during the French Revolution, the property was divided and its buildings either razed or rebuilt.
In 2021, in association with the CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research) and the Sorbonne University in Paris, the local council undertook an ambitious project to digitise the site then to offer a digital reconstruction. This exhibition will present the results of this research, offering visitors an opportunity to revisit the lost castle, through a rigorously scientific virtual reconstruction.
