Paysages perturbés – Caen (France)

18-20 March 2026

Disturbed landscapes

This symposium explores the ways in which literature responds, in its imaginary spaces, to disrupted, destroyed and transformed landscapes. Our aim is to study literary representations of these landscapes in all their cultural, historical, political and aesthetic diversity and to highlight their function in the context of social, ecological and psychological upheaval. Particular attention will be paid to analysing the effects of environmental destruction and climate change on literature and the collective imagination. Different historical contexts will be taken into account, as will contemporary perspectives that address, among other things, issues of the Anthropocene, posthuman viewpoints and ecocritical literature.
