Paysages, du romantisme à l’impressionnisme – Les environs de Paris – Sceaux (France)

Via around a hundred paintings, drawings and photographs, the exhibition will present the evolution of the Paris-based landscape in the 19th century. It will offer an overview of these emblematic artistic settings – in Barbizon, Auvers-sur-Oise or on the banks of the Marne – where French and foreign painters gathered to live the “life of an artist”. Places of romantic exile, the outskirts of Paris became, over the years, tourist attractions and leisure sites. Have artists borne faithful witness to these urban and social evolutions or have they invented their own Île-de-France?
