La réforme de l’art des jardins en France (1890-1925) by Camille LESOUEF – ONLINE
The reform of garden art in France (1890-1925)
This presentation will offer an overview of private garden trends from 1890 to 1925 in France, focusing in particular on the relationship between private gardens and architecture, and between texts and garden projects. It will examine 19th-century French garden culture, by highlighting models reinterpreted and adapted by garden designers. It will then focus on the professional, aesthetic and historic questions posed at the time in Europe, transforming and disrupting gardening practice. Finally, it will delve into symbolic case studies of the period’s leading trends, marked by a conflict between tradition and modernity on the one hand, and nationalism and internationalism, on the other hand.
