Alain Baraton
Alain Baraton was born on the 10th of September 1957 in La Celle-Saint-Cloud. He is the fifth of a family of seven children. In July 1976, he was employed at Versailles as cashier, then, in September the same year, as trainee gardening assistant. Since 1982, he is chief gardener of the National Estate of Trianon and the Grand Parc de Versailles, and since 2009, is in charge of the National Estate of Marly. He has written a number of articles for horticultural magazines along with several books, the last of which, L’Amour au jardin, was published by Grasset in April 2014. Since 2003, Alain Baraton has presented the live France Inter radio gardening programme on Saturdays and Sundays and, every Friday, the La Main Verte chronicle in the television programme La quotidienne on the France 5 channel. In 2006, he was elected national correspondent for the AAF (Academy of Agriculture of France) and is also Officer of the Order of Art and Letters, Officer of the Order of Agricultural Merit, Knight of the National Order of Merit and Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour.
