Verschönerte Landschaften in Mittel- und Mittelosteuropa! Konzepte, Akteure und Realitäten – Dresde (Allemagne)
Embellished landscapes in Central and Eastern Europe. Concepts, players and realities
In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the potential of landscape – and therefore public spaces – was discovered in a number of sites, to which aesthetic ideals were transferred by means of extensive horticultural intervention. Based on the concept of ‘embellished landscape’, visions and vast developments saw the day outside of princely castles and gardens. Historic locations of this ‘garden landscapes’ phenomenon, at the crossroads of the picturesque and the classical landscaped garden, represent a desideratum of garden historiography. This symposium aims to reunite information on this theme in a systemic overview, and to reveal the network of relationships between concepts, players and individual systems.
