André Le Nôtre aujourd’hui by Michel AUDOUY – Château de Bénouville
André Le Nôtre today
André Le Nôtre, who gained international fame during his lifetime, has since continued to influence the art of gardens and landscapes. But what role can he continue to play today, in a context within which landscape and gardens have become essential ingredients of a quality living environment? How can Le Nôtre, who developed his art in the 17th century thanks to exclusive royal commissions, inspire modern landscapers?
Michel Audouy
Michel Audouy, a landscape architect and lecturer at the ENSP (National Graduate School of Landscape) in Versailles since 2002, works on public area and garden development projects in urban or rural zones. He is the general secretary of the FFP (French Landscape Federation) and delegate chairman of Val’hor, a horticultural joint-trade organisation. In 2011, Michel Audouy worked in association with Michel Péna on the “La ville fertile” (the fertile town) exhibition at the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris and, in 2013, with Chiara Santini, he co-organised the series of conferences entitled “André Le Nôtre, de l’héritage à l’action” (from legacy to action), on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the great gardener’s birth.
