Die Hängenden Gärten von Babylon by Ariane THOMAS – Düsseldorf (Germany)
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon are said to have been created by the legendary Queen Semiramis for her own pleasure, or by the King Nebuchadnezzar II for his wife Amytis for whom the gardens were reminiscent of her homeland. The myth around the Hanging Gardens of Babylon reminds us of the great importance of gardens in Mesopotamia, as a vital and precious area requiring major irrigation work and constant maintenance.
