Essence et existence du jardin paysager anglais by Frédéric OGEE – Château de Bénouville
Essence and existence of the English landscaped garden
The English landscaped garden, born in the 18th century, is the mark of the remarkable engraving within Nature of the imagination and the mentalities of an entire nation, Great Britain, in its quest for recognition and identity. Based on pictorial aesthetics, enabling garden art to escape the hold of architecture, it calls remarkably upon the visitor’s active participation, throughout a progressive and sinuous itinerary, offering the sensitive experience of painstaking work on associations, the aim of which is to procure the “pleasures of the imagination” of which the entire Age of Enlightenment was in search.
