Historical and Contemporary Perspectives on Gardens – Stockholm (Sweden)
The relationship between humans and gardens has a long history. The garden can be regarded as a living metaphor for the coexistence of man and nature, but it can also symbolise man’s desire and ability to control and define nature. Nowadays gardens even have become a symbol for bio-diversity and species richness. The wildlife garden no longer represents disarrangement, but rather stands for a conscious human choice to allow non-human organisms to grow and thrive.
During 2023 both the Nationalmuseum and Färgfabriken art gallery open exhibitions on the topic of gardens. It therefore only comes naturally for both art institutions to cooperate and offer our visitors a possibility to experience gardens in art from both a historical and contemporary perspective.
In the first co-arranged event Nico Carpentier and Martin Olin will each give their lecture at Nationalmuseum.
