Le Parc botanique de la Roche Fauconnière : 150 ans d’acclimatations réussies. Et l’histoire continue… by Michaël POTEL and Gilbert TESSON – Château de Bénouville
The Roche Fauconnière botanical park: 150 years of successful acclimatisation. And the story continues…
During this conference, we will begin by retracing the park’s extraordinary botanical heritage, via five generations of the Favier family history. For 150 years, they enhanced collections, remarkably successfully associating botanics and landscape art. We will go on to present the park’s recent developments, spurred under the joint impetus of the Conservatoire du Littoral (Coastal Conservatory), the Cherbourg Town Council and the ‘La Cité des Plantes’ association.
Michaël Potel
Michaël Potel is a member of the ‘La Cité des Plantes’ association’s botanics committee, and is in charge of botanics and events at the Roche Fauconnière botanical park. He also coordinates guided tours. Along with his wife, since 2009 he has offered visitors access to the Blanche Maison garden, a CCVS (specialised plant collection conservancy) collection of hydrangeas, within the framework of the ‘Cotentin Côté Jardin‘ association of which he is the vice-chairman.
Gilbert Tesson
Retired since 2007 and back in Tonneville, Gilbert Tesson is delighted to plant and to embellish his garden (1 hectare) with a great diversity of plants – hydrangeas, camellias, magnolias, azaleas, rhododendrons, exotic plants, etc. Since 2017, with botanist friends and other garden and botanics enthusiasts, he has contributed – as chairman – towards action by the ‘La Cité des Plantes‘ association to restore the Roche Fauconnière park.
