Neue Gärten! Gartenkunst zwischen Jugendstil und Moderne – Berlin (Germany)
New Gardens – Gardens between Art Nouveau and modernity
“New Gardens” – that’s the title Joseph Maria Olbrich gave to his book, and it became the motto of a profound reformation of garden art in 1905. Around that time, the shape and function of gardens changed fundamentally. Landscape gardens, that were popular in the 19th century, are replaced by geometrically designed garden spaces. For the first time, this upheaval of garden art is shown in a widely varied art history and historico-cultural exhibition.
