Un pequeño mundo, un mundo perfecto. Jardines – Gijón (Spain)
A small world, a perfect world. Gardens
Throughout the history of art, representations of gardens, those controlled and tamed natural areas, has offered artists the opportunity to experiment different ways of conveying light and colour in landscape and botany, through a variety of aesthetic and formal approaches.
Starting from the biblical origin of landscape design as a divine work, as an idyllic area of exuberance and happiness, the exhibition will propose a tour of gardens and other lost paradises over a vast chronological study stretching from the 17th century to the works of contemporary artists.
The event will also pay tribute to still life, a major pictorial genre in the history of art, facilitating the introduction of fragments of gardens within homes, whilst reflecting changes in aesthetic tastes and fashions in decorative features inspired by botany.
