Vilmorin/Villandry : une lignée au service des plantes – Villandry (France)
Vilmorin/Villandry 2017, A lineage at the service of plants
For Villandry, this cultural season is an opportunity to recall, through an exhibition, the action of two dynasties that each in their own way contributed to French excellence in the art of the garden : the Vilmorin and the Carvallo families. The Vilmorin were a leading family of botanist scholars and seed producers from the time of Louis XV until the 20th century. Marguerite Carvallo, the granddaughter of Elisabeth de Vilmorin and Marc d’Estienne d’Orves (for thirty years one of the directors of the company Vilmorin-Andrieux et Cie), headed the team of gardeners at Villandry for over ten years. This exhibition also recounts the role played by Ann Coleman alongside her husband Joachim Carvallo in saving the château of Villandry.
Event organised as part of the regional project, Loire Valley Gardens – 2017.
