European colloquium on the conservation of historic vegetable and fruit gardens
Over many recent years, we have observed much renewed interest in fruit and vegetable gardens, in particular those of historic interest. Such enthusiasm offers us an excellent opportunity to reflect on the challenges facing these gardens in terms of conservation. Les Amis du Potager du Roi association and the Walled Kitchen Gardens Network have set themselves a four-fold objective for this colloquium :
– To reunite a group of historic fruit and vegetable garden owners and managers, together with experts in the field, so they can share their experience, their projects and their skills.
– To define the specificities of the conservation and management of a historic fruit and vegetable garden.
– To compile a guide of good practice to ensure the conservation and longevity of historic fruit and vegetable gardens, relying on concrete examples from across Europe.
– To build a future via the networking of stakeholders in the field of historic fruit and vegetable garden conservation.
Given the application of current sanitary measures, the colloquium will begin, as scheduled, on the 15th of October; however, it will be in the form of an on-line conference, organised from Chambord and its new vegetable gardens.
It will be followed by the Entretiens de Chambord, which will consist of 3 further on-line conferences. Each event will focus on one of the initially planned themes for Chambord and will consist of presentations / discussions with the same speakers as those initially programmed.
Finally, in 2021, as soon as the situation with regard to the pandemic permits, the conclusions of this colloquium will be presented at Chambord.
