The music of nature
Our interest in the sounds produced by nature goes back to the very origins of humanity. Oral traditions in early societies bear witness to such curiosity, abounding with bird songs, rustling leaves or murmuring rivers, all perceived as sacred manifestations. Over the centuries, the sounds of nature have inspired poets, musicians and other artists, whilst nourishing science to become a field of study in their own right. Today, the arts appropriate these sounds and, through their exploration, endeavour to unveil all their mysteries, to approach them and even to dream that, in each of the silences inherent to human-composed music, nature may deploy her voice.
