Englischer Garten in Munich: its history, its news, its future
We are all familiar with the famous Englischer Garten (English Garden) in Munich, created by the gardener Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell as from 1789 and acknowledged as one of the very first public gardens. Within the very configuration of the city of Munich, the Englischer Garten occupies a prime position thanks to the quality of its plant life and the ‘natural scenes’ it depicts. Located in the city centre, the entire park, which is managed and maintained by the Bavarian Administration of State-Owned Palaces, Gardens and Lakes, is nevertheless under threat of acts of vandalism and urban infrastructure projects.
This colloquium aims at drawing attention to this extraordinary and fragile garden – a genuine work of art for the public to admire.
