Jardins, état des lieux : de l’étude à la valorisation – Nice (France)

Gardens, an inventory: from study to valorisation

In order to better understand the great diversity of gardens, the French Ministry for Culture and Regions’ heritage departments register, study, restore and valorise gardens: parks around prestigious properties, botanic gardens, ornamental gardens, kitchen gardens, public parks, educational gardens, shared gardens, vegetable gardens, allotments, domestic gardens, etc.
Fifteen years after the creation of the Jardin Remarquable (remarkable garden) label by the French Ministry for Culture, and the overseeing of the general cultural heritage inventory by regional councils, various approaches adopted by heritage departments are worthy of study and discussion.
Hence, the Ministry for Culture and several regional inventory departments have joined forces to form a work group aimed at encouraging scientific research, reflection and action in favour of gardens. The ‘Jardins, état des lieux : de l’étude à la valorisation’ open days will offer an opportunity to take stock of implemented policies and the various garden study and valorisation approaches engaged in different regions.
