Le jardin des Tuileries ou le royaume des enfants by Emmanuelle HERAN – Paris (France)

The Tuileries Garden or the children’s kingdom

As from Louis XIII’s reign, the Tuileries Garden has been the playground of the royal children who resided within the palace. In the 19th century, it was opened to a larger public and new play areas and attractions were offered to children from the Parisian bourgeoisie and the common people. Whilst certain attractions remain to this day, and the Louvre has recreated one particular play area, others have since disappeared, such as the puppet show and the goat-drawn carriages. What should be maintained? What should be proposed? Should we innovate? In what areas? And for what public? Such is the ongoing reflection of the Louvre museum’s gardens management department.
