Les jardins méconnus de Le Nôtre by Catherine de BOURGOING – Château de Bénouville
Le Nôtre’s unfamiliar gardens
This richly illustrated conference retraces the career of an illustrious yet unfamiliar gardener who, behind his apparent good nature, shrewdly remained in the king’s favour. It offers us an insight into his recently newfound gardens in and around Paris: Bercy, Gagny, Roissy… This indefatigable worker boasted many a talent, acknowledged by all the royal courts of Europe, equally as a designer of gardens and of architectural works, and as an urban planner.
Catherine de Bourgoing
Catherine de Bourgoing was the commissioner of the Jardins romantiques français exhibition held in 2011 in the Museum of Romantic Life in Paris. Since archives on Le Nôtre’s work are extremely rare, she co-wrote a “vade mecum” on Le Nôtre with Didier Wirth, which was published in the autumn of 2013.
