Les Jardins de Castillon, exemplaires de l’histoire de la création contemporaine de jardins en France by Colette SAINTE BEUVE and Philippe LOISON – Château de Bénouville

The Castillon Gardens, a fine example of history and the contemporary creation of gardens in France

Colette Sainte Beuve

At the dawn of the 1980s, Colette Sainte Beuve was among the very first nursery gardeners to offer a wide variety of new plants for gardens, which had been impossible to find in France to date and which she personally travelled to England with her husband Hubert to bring home, cultivate and propose to amateurs and landscapers alike. The magnificent gardens she designed at Castillon bear witness to this curiosity for exceptional plant species and their extraordinary diversity. Throughout their composition, they also illustrate the career of a creator who, over the years, successfully asserted her personality, without for as much neglecting the influences that spurred her passion for gardens.

Philippe Loison

Philippe Loison, born in 1957 in Lyon, has been a gardener since the age of 7. He has worked as an agronomy engineer, journalist, editor-in-chief of the Mon Jardin & Ma Maison magazine from 1998 to 2000, and co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of the Art des Jardins magazine with Marianne Lavillonnière (2009-today).
