« Racontez-nous vos Tuileries » ou comment associer le public à l’histoire des jardins by Emmanuelle HERAN – Paris (France)
“Tell us about the Tuileries”, or how to enlighten the public on the history of gardens
The history of gardens is not only that of their sponsors and landscapers; it is also that of their visitors and users. As one of the most frequently visited gardens in the world, the Tuileries Garden is a fine example of this social story. However, official archives are insufficient for us to grasp all of the garden’s dimensions. To do so, the Louvre’s gardens directorate has begun by commissioning a qualitative study of its visitors. In 2018, a vast survey will be launched to collect textual and visual testimonies. The historic wealth it promises to unveil will give meaning to future developments, which should be better adapted to suit user expectations.
