Dans le jardin-forêt : le Bois des Moutiers by Marco MARTELLA and Louis GAILLARD – Archives du Calvados
In the forest garden: the Moutiers Woods
What is a garden beyond its formal beauty? Over what outdoor and interior journeys does it invite us? Some gardens are designed like genuine works of art and, as such, they aim to deeply alter our perception of the world, by unveiling new perspectives, by producing epiphanies. The Moutiers Woods, in Varengeville, are a case in point, and an example of one of the most accomplished in the arts and crafts style. In their book on the site, Dans le jardin forêt, Marco Martella and Louis Gaillard do not so much attempt to grasp the garden, neither do they describe it… but they explore it, unveiling its ‘soul’ and its genius loci.
