Ordre et désordre au jardin – Strasbourg (France)

Order and disorder in the garden
To what extent are gardens an instrument of social control and/or protest? By studying over a long period and via international comparisons, this colloquium will highlight the way in which gardens can act as instruments to create order (social, aesthetic, natural) or as sites where disorder emerges, whether by means of biology (or “nature”), or by social or cultural intervention. The aim of the event is to confront social and ecological challenges and pluridisciplinary approaches via a study of cultivated areas in towns. The question of order/disorder will provide a thread and will be interpreted from a number of different perspectives, the receding lines of which will be determined via a synthesis of the symposium.
