Gustave Fayet et ses jardins imaginaires – Villeneuve-lès-Avignon (France)

1er March - 30 August 2026

Gustave Fayet and his imaginary gardens

Gustave Fayet designed the gardens of his personal properties, such as Fontfroide Abbay, the Château d’Igny and Villa Costebrune, nature offering his key source of inspiration. These green spaces also nourished his artistic work, the botanic representations of which could be figurative or whimsical. His profoundly decorative creations adorn canvases, rugs, fabrics, blotting paper and illustrated books. His sometimes-transformed floral motifs are evocative of Redon’s work, illustrating his unique vision of plant life over a harmonious medley of nature and decoration.

Hosted in the heart of the remarkable gardens of the Abbey of Saint-André, this exhibition will highlight all the wealth of a world associating garden art, botany and decoration. Observing Gustave Fayet’s imaginary gardens offers the visitor a step into vibrant creations that unveil his exceptional creativity and a truly original vision of nature for the early 20th century.
