Jardin & littérature – Andé (France)

1-3 October 2025

Sofie Werenskiold, Park Landscape with Reading Woman
Sofie Werenskiold (1849-1926). Femme lisant dans un parc, vers 1881. Huile sur toile. Oslo, National Museum.

For this second edition, the Institut Européen des Jardins & Paysages and the Normandy Regional Council are organising a colloquium on the theme ‘Jardin & littérature(‘Garden & Literature’), following in the footsteps of the first edition, held in Caen in 2019, the proceedings of which were awarded a prize by the Academy of Science, Arts and Literature, Caen.

The programme for the 2025 edition will offer an original approach including that of languages, their history and diversity and that of commemorations, from the 500th anniversary of Pierre de Ronsard (1524-1585) to the centenary of Surrealism. The subject’s European dimension is further endorsed via a focus on Germany and the poet Heinrich Heine (1797-1856), on Belgium and the Prince Charles Joseph of Ligne (1735-1814) and the presentation of the René Pechère (1908-2002) literary prize. A whole morning of ‘Jardin & littérature’ will also be devoted to women’s contribution to the theme.

Visits of the gardens of Seine-Maritime will be organised on the afternoon of 1 October.
